Astrid and Noah's Vintage Floral Cakesmash - Seymour, CT Milestone Photographer

Two adorable little girls smashing cake, but let me tell you...this was not just any photoshoot. And these are not just any little girls. At only a year old, they already have quite a story. A story of grace, faith and hope.
Incredibly, these sisters were born at 25 weeks 3 days. They were only 1 lb 10 oz and 1 lb 14 oz and spent almost 4 months in the NICU fighting for their life. As a mother, I cannot imagine spending that long in a hospital...not being able to do all of the things we take for granted; hold them, take pictures of them together, put silly outfits on them. But this family did just that, all the while not knowing if they'd be leaving with their babies. The more I learned about the parents of these girls, the more I learned that they are pretty incredible people. To this day, I've never heard them speak of anything other than gratitude and positivity. It's no wonder these little girls are as strong as they are!
After a long four months, Christine and Nick DID get to bring their babies home. These girls are little fighters, and as you can see they are now completely healthy, thriving and absolutely adorable. Their names are Noah Grace and Astrid Faith.
There's one more very important piece to their story. Noah and Astrid are not twins, as they might appear. They are surviving triplets. Around 15 weeks into Christine's pregnancy, their sister's sac ruptured and she was without fluid for ten weeks. Without the amniotic fluid for so long, her lungs were unable to develop. She was born a little over a pound at 24 weeks 5 days. Christine and Nick got to hold her for a few hours until she passed in their arms on the same day she was born, May 2. Her name is Isla Hope.
We began planning this session, and like any other session, we had fun planning out the little details that would make this fun. Colors, themes, cake designs, etc. All of the totally superficial but fun details us moms always love to get carried away with. But one thing we knew early on was that we wanted Isla to be represented in the pictures in a meaningful way. We chose to incorporate peonies into our photoshoot as a way of honoring her. You see, Christine and Nick's front yard front yard is lined with them and they bloom each May. They are a constant reminder to the family of the sweet angel they have looking over them, and the hope that she gave to her sisters by fighting to stay alive as long as she did. I have no doubt that Isla was with us this day, making Astrid giggle away and egging Noah on to destroy that cake! After so much struggle and loss, as well as so many incredible blessings and miracles, I included subtle rainbow to show the way that I could feel Isla there embracing her sisters throughout our session, and I'm sure throughout their life.
Noah Grace, Astrid Faith, and Isla Hope are three incredible girls who have already touched so many and accomplished so much. Isla is a true hero who's story will live on and inspire eternally...I hope these pictures help it to do so. Noah and Astrid's story has just begin, and I can't wait to see where it goes. Here's to many, many more chapters, little ones, with your sister shining brightly over you...happy birthday! And now...cake!!!
