Joshua's Six Month Sitter Session - Hamden, CT Baby Photographer
Jul 4, 2018 | By: Stefanie Cole Photography
Joshua is just the sweetest little guy from one of my favorite long-time families. I did a little happy dance inside when Mom booked his six month session, because he was just the cutest newborn ever! He did not disappoint, and gave us so many adorable images. Although birthday sessions are my most popular milestone package I, and many photographers, believe the 6-8 month range is the BEST age for professional pictures. I thought that Joshua's session might be the perfect time to give you some reasons why.
1. Less work! 6-8 month olds can sit up, smile, and do all the things we want them to do for pictures but the wonderful thing about this is they are not yet mobile. Not being able to crawl or walk away makes our sessions SO much less work both for myself and for the parents. Birthday sessions often consist of ten minutes of cooperation (if we're lucky) and then about 40 minutes of chasing.
2. More poses - At this age, most babies are super laid back and go with the flow. They will sit up, but also love to lay on their back, grab their toes, or go into the pushup position. This allows us to get so much variety within your session, and utilize different props and furs.
3. More outfits - To piggyback off of #2, because at this age babies are so mellow, we can often get away with several outfit changes to give you more variety out of your session. By the time babies are one, they are often much more stubborn and opinionated, and reallllly hate outfit changes.
4. Happier babies - 6-8 month olds are typically pretty happy and trusting. For most babies, separation anxiety peaks between 10-18 months. At this point, they start to fear that their parents will leave them and will NOT want to leave your arms. It can make for a difficult session when a baby cries every time momma puts them down. Most 6-8 month olds have not reached this not-so-fun-milestone yet, and are thus unphased when a parent puts them on the backdrop for pictures and steps back.
So those are just a few of the reasons that I highly recommend parents to do a "sitter" session instead of, or in addition to, the very popular birthday session. It is an overlooked but important milestone! And if you do both, you will not believe how much they change even in just those few months...you will be so glad you captured it!
